Little Mermaid-Background
Ursula makes the jump from the beloved Disney animated film and the timeless Hans Christian Andersen tale in Disney’s Theatrical’s latest musical production.
Ariel, Prince Eric, Flounder, and the rest of the mermaid’s friends and family come to life to spoil Ursula’s evil plot in this Broadway rendition of the 1991 box office smash hit.
Sierra Bogges plays Ariel, King Triton’s daughter whose search for love and adventure comes at a price, her voice. Ursula, King Triton’s sister and Ariel’s aunt, makes a deal with the unwitting mermaid princess that will give her control of the sea. It is up to Ariel and her friends to stop the sea witch before her family and the sea are left in ruin.
Bogges is coming off her big break as Christine Daae in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom-The Las Vegas Spectacular. The 25-year-old actress effortlessly captures the audiences’ attention, whether in the depths of the ocean or on dry land.
The ocean is brought to the stage by strong blues and bright tropical colors in a translucent set designed by George Tsypin and costumes by Tatiana Noginova. The creatures of the sea dance and move on roller blades to the choreography of Stephen Mear. The music and lyrics of Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater recreate the movie’s magical sound.
Francesca Zamello’s directorial debut previewed at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts’ Ellie Caulkins Opera House in the summer of 2007, packing the 95,000-seat opera house every show. Now, it is coming to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Broadway, replacing Beauty and the Beast.
The rest of the cast stars Sean Palmer as Prince Eric, Cody Hanford and J.J. Singleton splitting time as Flounder, Norm Lewis as King Trition, Sherie Rene Scott as Ursula, and Titus Burgess as Sebastian.
Come to Broadway and check out the show. Disney Theatrical’s Little Mermaid is sure to be sold out, so find your tickets on The Seats at www.theseats.com.
